UK fines can go up to £10,000 per clandestine person found in your truck. Luckily, you can avoid this by following the official security process – starting with completing the correct checklist.
1. Use the official security checklist
- The UK Border Force checklist must be completed at every relevant stop.
- You can download it in multiple languages from:
gov.uk/vehicle-security-checklist
2. Don’t stop too close to ports!
- It is strongly recommended NOT to stop within 200–300 km of ports to the UK.
- Avoid taking your 9-hour break near ports like Calais, Dunkerque or Zeebrugge.
- These are high-risk areas for clandestine boarding.
3. Take photos of everything
- Take pictures of:
- Security seals
- Closed trailer doors
- Tarp condition
- They may serve as evidence in case of checks or fines.
4. Mandatory checks at each stop
- Check the condition of the trailer, floor, locks, roof, and tarp.
- Use the checklist to record all inspections.
5. Keep your checklist
- The checklist must be:
- Printed before the trip
- Completed by hand
- Signed by the driver
- Kept for at least 6 months
